Another way to search for finance career opportunities is to start from specific companies, i.e. looking for companies that you are interested in working for.
Your local business directory is an excellent source for you to identify small to medium sized companies. Regardless of the industries these businesses belong to, every company requires someone or a team of people to manage its finance. Therefore you can inform these companies' HR department about your interest in a finance related position, provide a cover letter and resume, so that when they have suitable opportunities, you can be the first to be notified about them.
If you are interested in working for more established firms such as Fortune 500 companies, usually companies of such size feature a "careers" or "employment" section on their websites. You should register your details with them, apply for roles you are interested in using the online tools, otherwise you should be able to provide your interested career options to these websites so that you could be alerted when suitable roles arise.
Whether you are interested in working in a global financial institution in the west coast, a boutique fund manager on Wall Street or any local businesses, the key is to identify them and create a list of top 10 or 20 of your interested companies. This way you have objectives to work towards.
However suitable opportunities may not appear anytime soon, so while focusing on the companies you are interested, you should always keep your eyes open to suitable finance related vacancies in any other companies.
